The Abu Dhabi Mangrove Pilot lays the groundwork for an environmental AI framework that will transform long term protection and management of the emirate’s mangrove parks. Operating within the MPA, the trial deploys autonomous USVs to patrol sensitive areas, deter illegal activity and gather continuous high resolution data on water quality, habitat condition and ecosystem trends.
This real time intelligence forms the foundation of a learning system that strengthens early warning capability and supports adaptive management across the mangrove network. The pilot also includes training for national staff and university interns, building local expertise in autonomous operations and the science of mangrove resilience, ensuring that Abu Dhabi’s blue carbon assets remain healthy, and globally exemplary for decades to come.
Ocean Blade’s Oman Pilot Trial establishes the foundation for a nationwide program in advanced MPA management, water quality intelligence and autonomous marine protection. Focused around the Damaniyat Islands, the 90-day pilot integrates 5-10 m USVs with GCC standard water sampling, real time ecosystem monitoring and coordinated operations with the Ministry and permitting authorities.
The program also includes structured training for national staff and hands on internships for university students, building local capacity in autonomous systems, marine science and environmental stewardship. Combining technology, education and operational demonstration, the pilot shows how Oman can enhance conservation, strengthen enforcement and inspire the next generation. This project is a precursor to a scalable 3-year rollout across Daymaniyat, Duqm, and Salalah.
The Sabah initiative, supported by Sabah Maju Jaya and formalised through a research agreement with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), establishes a transformative platform for blue economy growth, marine protection and scientific innovation. The program integrates autonomous marine monitoring, fisheries support, habitat assessment and coastal protection into a unified operational framework designed to strengthen Sabah’s ocean stewardship.
Working alongside UMS researchers and students, the initiative builds national capacity through specialised training, joint scientific studies, and technology transfer. Central to the program is the development of a dedicated research and training facility, enabling long-term skill development, continuous environmental intelligence, and the creation of locally delivered blue economy services. Together, these elements position Sabah as a regional leader in sustainable ocean management and nature positive development.
